Marjorie (Stanley) Cox

MRS. MARJORIE STANLEY COX, 90 of WINGATE, NC passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at the Jesse Helms Nursing Center in Monroe, NC.

Funeral Services will be held 3:00pm Sunday, December 4, 2016 at the Piney Grove East Missionary Baptist Church, 1708 Ansonville Road, Marshville, NC 28103. Rev., Dr. Matthew Rouse, III, Pastor, Eulogist. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

A public viewing will be held 12:00pm to 7:00pm Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Monroe, NC

Born Tuesday, September 9, 1926 in Chesterfield County, SC a daughter of the late Henry James Stanley and Hattie White Stanley.

Deaconess Margie joined Piney Grove East Missionary Baptist Church at an early age.  She was a deveoted Deaconess who loved the Lord and her  church. She served on the kitchen committee for many years.  She retired from the Union County Public Schools in 1992 where she worked in the Child Nutrition Program.  She loved telling people about their family history and the growth of different areas of Union County.  She also loved gardening. Some people knew her well for her fresh vegetables, homemade butter and fresh homemade buttermilk.

Deaconess Margie was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life, Henry Samuel "Sam" Cox whom preceded her in death, also preceding her in death were her parents, two daughters, Virginia Marie Cox and Anita Viola Cox; grandson Johnathan Bennett, and a nephew she raised Timothy Stanley, three sisters, Beulah Robinson, Sally Doster and Mable Ivey a brother, Sylvester "Teal" Stanley.

She leaves to cherish her beautiful memories: a daughter, Irene Cox Staton (Harvey), three sons, James Sylvester Cox, III (Karen), Henry Samuel Cox, Jr. (Frances) and Charles Anthony Cox.  One brother Bradshaw Stanley (Jackie). Nieces and nephews that she raised; Patricia Stanley, Teresa Young (Paul), Sylvester Stanley, Jr. (Brenda) and Darrell Stanly. Eleven Grandchildren: Charles David Staton(Syreeta), Anitra S. Young, Harvey Duane Staton (Carlisa), Demetra S. Robinson, James S. Cox, IV, Tanita Cox, Darius Cox, Samuel Cox, Marcus Cox, Crystal Chapman (Michael) and Kenneth Bennett, eight great-grandchildren: Darian Staton, Donte' Staton, Brittany Staton, Devin Staton, Jada Caudle, Deray Caudle, Caleb Cox and London Marsh. A host of other nieces, nephews and friends.
