Mrs. Mary Myrtle McAuley Dumas, 87 of Mount Gilead, NC died Friday, May 3, 2013 at her home. Funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Roper Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, Mt. Gilead, NC of which she was a member, with Reverend Conneth Clinton, pastor, eulogist. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Family visitation will be at 1:30 p.m., prior to the funeral.
She was a Montgomery County native, born July 16, 1925, to the late James and Willa Deberry McAuley. She attended the public schools of Montgomery County. At Roper Grove, she served diligently in the following positions; Deaconess, Floral Club member, Choir Member, Usher and Class Leader until her health failed. She was formerly employed by Gilead Manufacturing and retired from McRae Industries.
She was married to the late Jethro Dumas and to this union six children were born; a daughter, Carol D. Parker and a son, Chavis Lavern Dumas preceded her in death.
In a family of 10 children, she was preceded by Alberta Dumas, CJ and DJ McAuley, Lawson McAuley, Graham McAuley, Grover McAuley, Lillie Thomas, Willie Clyde McAuley and Roosevelt McAuley.
Those left to cherish loving memories are three devoted sons; Bluford W. Dumas (Debra) of Browns Summit, NC; Reginald B. Dumas (Shirley) of Lauderhill, FL., and Jerole A. Dumas of Greensboro, NC and one daughter, Marian Lynn Dumas of the home; one son-in-law, Rev. Clifton Parker; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; brothers-in-laws, Asia Dumas (Shirley) and Harold Scarboro, all of Mt. Gilead, NC and Frank Dumas of Paulsboro, NJ; three sisters-in-law, Katie McAuley, Alberta McAuley and Annie McAuley, all of Mt. Gilead, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and dear friends.
