MS. MARY HELEN INGRAM ROGERS, 79 of BROOKLYN, NY formerly of MONROE, NC passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at New York Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. Funeral Services will be held 2pm Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Langford Chapel CME Church, 113 S. Johnson St., Monroe, NC 28112 with her remains to lie in state one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park, 1901 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112. A public viewing will be held 12 noon to 7pm Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Monroe, NC.
Mary Helen was born Saturday, May 11, 1935 in Monroe, NC to the late Roddy Ingram and Lillie Cunningham Humphries. She joined Langford Chapel CME Church and was educated in the public shools of Union County, NC, upon graduating from Winchester High School, Mary Helen moved to Brooklyn, NY where she attended First Baptist Church of Crown Heights. Mary Helen was joined into holy matrimony to Sylvester Rogers and to this union was blessed with four children.
Mary Helen retired from the New York City Police Department after 25 years of faithful service. She was a hardworking and dedicated employee.
Throughout her life Mary Helen exhibited an unselfish and abiding love for her family. She was always willing to lend a helping or discerning ear. She was extremely proud of her children and supported them throughout all of their endeavors.
Mary Helen was preceded in death by her parents; one brother; John Humphries, aunts; Gertrude, Ruby, Hazeline, Annie Bell, and Geneva; two uncles; Frank Cunnigham and James Coleman Cunningham and son-in-law; Holly Faulkner, Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memories include her husband; Sylvester Rogers; her children; Sharon Cook (Andre) of Charlotte, NC, Helena Rogers-Faulkner, of Monroe, NC, Sylvester Maurice Rogers, Jr. (Lisa) of Brooklyn, NY and Lilli Denise Rogers-Brown (Tony) of Columbia, SC; her grandchildren; Bianca, Justin, Trey and Elijah; one brother; Albert Humphries (Clover) of Brooklyn, NY, one uncle; Herman Cunningham of Monroe, NC, special cousin; Louise Massey (Lorenzo) of Waxhaw, NC and several other relatives and love ones.
