Mary Jessie (Osborne) Stewart

MRS. MARY JESSIE OSBORNE STEWART, 82 of MONROE, NC passed away Friday, August 23, 2019 at the Novant Health / Presbyterian Medical Center, Harris Hospice Unit in Charlotte, NC.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm Friday, August 30, 2019 at the Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, 503 Maurice St., Monroe, NC 28112.  Bishop Osco E. Gardin, Jr., Pastor, Eulogist.  Mrs. Stewart's remains will lie in repose 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the church prior to the service.  Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Monroe, NC.

A public viewing will be held 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremations of Monroe, NC which is serving the Stewart, Osborne and extended families.

Mae Jessie Osborne Stewart was born on Monday, August 31, 1936 in Union County, North Carolina, to the late Lewis Osborne and Jessie Mae Ledbetter.  She exchanged time for eternity on Friday, August 23, 2019, 8 days shy of her 83rd birthday, at Presbyterian Medical Center-Harris Hospice Unit.

Mae Jessie, as she was fondly called, devoted her life to Christ at an early age and became a member of Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang on the choir, singing "Come On In My Room", until her health began to decline.

Mae Jessie was a good cook and was called the Queen of Soul Food.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Stewart, her parents and a sister, Alta Mae Autry.

Mae Jessie leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters, Shirley Stewart of Monroe, NC and Brenda Stewart Bumbray of Fort Washington, MD; two sons, Steven Stewart (Valerie) and Johnny Ray Stewart (Lisa), all of Monroe, NC; one brother, Nathan Lee Holmes(Gloria) of Monroe, NC; 12 grandchildren, Albert, Christine, Shiree, Italie, Lorenzo, Natasha, Steven, Markus, Ian, Johnathan, Santana and Khadijah; and a number of great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
