Mattie (Williams) Garmon

MRS. MATTIE  MAE WILLIAMS GARMON, 85 of MONROE, NC passed away Monday, February 16, 2015 at Carolinas Medical Center Union in Monroe, NC.  Funeral Services will be held 4pm Friday, February 20, 2015 at Saint Davie Missionary Baptist Church, 5205 White Store Rd., Wingate, NC 28174 Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.  A public viewing will be held 1pm to 7pm Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Monroe, NC.

Mrs. Mattie Mae Williams Garmon, a daughter of the late Thomas E. Williams and Geneva Neal Williams, was born on February 13, 1930, in Union County, North Carolina.  She was the youngest of 6 children born to this union.  She departed this earthly life on Monday, February 16, 2015.

She  attended school in Marshville, NC, and had the honor of graduating from Marshville High School as Valedictorian.  After high school, she attended the School of Cosmetology and More Than Conquerors Ministry, both in Charlotte, NC.

Mattie was married to Lewis G. Garmon, who preceded her in death in 1987.  She was a very active member of Saint Davie Missionary Baptist Church, as President of the Missionary Circle, Vice-President of the Usher Board, Assistant Sunday School Teacher.  She also served as president of the ladies auxillary , Thd Baptist Home and foreigh Ministry, along with several other organizations, Women' s Auxilliary of Lanes Creek.

Mattie was preceded in death by her husband Lewis, brothers, David, John and Thomas, a sister Effie Winfield and three children, Brandon Lee Garmon, Eva Ramona Garmon and Jerry L. Garmon.

She leaves to cherish loving memories and a huge legacy to two daughters, Delores Faulkner (Paul) of Charlotte, NC and Patricia Frederick (Randy) of Columbia, SC; a sister, Hazelene Wallace of Charlotte, NC; 8 grandchildren,  5 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
