Max Livingston Massey

January 8, 1948 — January 20, 2013

Mr. Max Livingston Massey, 65 of Monroe, NC died Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Stanly Regional Hospital in Albemarle, NC.  Funeral Services will be held 3pm Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Christ Bible Discipleship Worship Center, 1019 Unarco Rd., Marshville, NC 28103.  Interment with full military honors will be held 11am Monday, January 28, 2013 at Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC.  Public viewing will be held 12 noon to 7pm Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Monroe, NC.

Born in Union County, NC,  Thursday, January 8, 1948, a son of the late James Clyde "Jim" Massey and the late Sarah Livingston "Sadie" Massey.  At an early age he joined Friendship Baptist Church and was presently attending Cedar Creek Baptist Church.

Upon graduating from Winchester High School, he joined the United States Marine Corps where he served for four years, during that time he received two Purple Hearts.

Along his life's journey, he resided in several states, and upon returning home, he worked for the North Carolina Department of Corrections and Consolidate Metco for several years.

After retirement, he became owner of D&M Maintenance and Massey's Lawn service.  His love for horses since he was seven years old, made him known through out the community.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Verla Starnes, his parents and his sisters, Lottie Deloris Massey and Marjorie Massey Huntley.

Max leaves to cherish his precious memories to eleven children, Steve Leak of Sanford, NC Jeffery Massey of Durham, NC, Tameka Johnson and Charles Johnson both of Gary IN, Maxette Massey of Durham, NC , Belinda Cherry and Max L. Massey, Jr., both of Monroe, NC, Max L. Roland of Wingate, NC, Alice Nicole Rushing of and Sheree Rushing both of Canton, OH and Amanda  Johnson of Ohio; one brother, James M. "Bay" Massey, (Betty) of Indian Trail, NC one sister, Sheryl D. "Sherrie" Massey of the home; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, two uncles. three aunts, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and  friends.
