Millie Vaughn Stout Cook, a daughter of the late Emma Horne Stout and Vodrie C. Stout, was born on Friday,  February 17, 1922, in Montgomery County, NC.

"Vaughn" as she was fondly called by everyone, attended the public school in Wadeville and graduated from Peabody High School, Troy, NC, where she was an "A" student.  She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Wadeville AME Zion Church and later joined Roper Grove AME Zion Church where she was an active member.  She was a Sunday School Teacher and on the Deaconess Board and a devout Christian.

She was united in holy matrimony to Homer E. Cook on October 30, 1943 and to this union three children were born, Fredrick, Millie and Homer Lee.

In Vaughn's earlier years, she was a Domestic Worker and worked at the  Laundry in Troy, NC.  She was later employed at West Montgomery High School as a Custodian and in the Dietary department at Montgomery Memorial Hospital, Troy, NC,  now Firsthealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital.

She was a hard worker and always wanted the best for her children.  She was strict and a strong believer in education.  She always wanted her children to study hard and succeed in life.

Vaughn was quiet but spoke loudly with her heart.  She was a caring woman.  When someone was sick, she was there to care for them.  When her husband fell ill, she was by his side until his death.  She was the same with her parents; brother, sister and others.

Even  though she was quiet, she loved talking on the phone to her friends, especially Mrs. Viola McAuley and the late Mrs. Vietta Christian.  Her favorite hobbies were  reading (especiially the Bible), solving crossword puzzels and listening to Gospel music.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Homer E.; son Homer Lee; siblings, sister, Atria Stout Martin, and brother, Vodrie L. Stout.

Those left to cherish and to honor her loving memories are her son, Fredrick Cook and wife Debbie and her daughter, Millie Cook-Thomas and husband Cecil, all of New Jersey; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews,  other relatives and friends.
