MINISTER LARRY DONALD MORRISON, 62 of WAXHAW, NC passed away Thursday, September 14, 2017 at his home.
Funeral Services will be held 3:00 pm Sunday, September 17, 2017 at the Marvin AME Zion Church, 1525 Crane Rd., Waxhaw, NC 28173. Visitation will be held 2:30 pm to 3:00 pm at the church prior to ther service.
Visitation will also be held 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm Saturday, September 16, 2017 at the Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, 1504 Providence Rd., S., Waxhaw, NC 28173. Interment will be held in the Mount Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery in Waxhaw, NC.
Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Monroe, NC is in charge.
Minister Larry was born on Thursday, October 21, 1954, in Union County, NC, to the late Levi and Maci Holmes Morrison. He was one of 14 children.
He was a product of the Union County Public Schools, graduating from Sun Valley High School. He was a husband, provider, father, grandfather, and Minister, who was a child of God and loved witnessing to many.
He was employed by Kendrick Brick and Tile Company, and Eastern Electric Company for 20 years. He then worked for Reliance Electric Company for 17 years until his health began to fail. He was also a AC and DC Electric motor repair man and field worker. With his job, he got to travel to many states. He loved vacations with his family and grandchildren, which he spoiled.
He was a member of Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, where he was an associate minister for many years. Under the leadership of Dr. W.T. Richardson, he founded and led the youth ministry for many years. He was a member of the Choir and Laymen's Ministry, Sunday School Department. He also loved to sing, write songs and study the Bible.
He was united in marriage for 39 years to Shirley Vinson Morrison and together they had four children. One son, Eric Ray Morrison, preceded him in death along with one brother, Willie James Morrison.
Those left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Shirley Vinson Morrison; two sons, Rodney B. Morrison of Charlotte, NC and Larry E. Morrison of Washington, DC; one daughter, Shirvon R. Smith (Richard) of Waxhaw, NC; nine grandchildren, Paige, Corey, Kayla, Faith, Elijah, Erica, Richard, Jr., Trinity and Jewish; God daughter, His Client; six brothers, Worthell Morrison (Delores) Thomas Morrison, all of Waxhaw, NC, Melvin Morrison, Hosea Morrison (Barbara), Roger Morrison (Krista), all of Monroe, NC and Eric Morrison( Delores) of Columbia, SC; six sisters, Marie Black, Yvonne Stacks( Carl), Elizabeth Threatt(Louis), all of Monroe, NC, Hattie Anthony (Edward,) Geraldine Stacks (Clyde) and Diane Johnson (Charles), all of Waxhaw, NC; father and mother-in- law, Thomas and Maggie Vinson, special nieces, Monika Frazier and Kathy Black,; three sisters in law, nine brothers in law, three special aunts, Mary Frances Morrison, Dinah Hood and Hattie McDow; several aunts, uncles, cousins, Nieces, nephews, and friends.
