Nannie Bertha (Stanback) Legrand

MRS. NANNIE STANBACK LEGRAND, 89 of MT. GILEAD, NC passed away Saturday, January 9, 2021 at the Raleigh Tower Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Raleigh, NC.

Graveside Services will be held 12:00 pm Saturday, January 16, 2021 at the Mount Airy AME Zion Church Cemetery, 322 Rosenwald School Rd., MT. Gilead, NC.

(Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic everyone attending the Service and Public Viewing are required to wear a face mask or facial coving. Also use the Hand Sanitizing Station when entering and exiting when entermg the Funeral Home.)

A Public Viewing will  be held 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Friday, January 15, 2021 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremations of MT. Gilead, NC.

According to the will of our Heavenly Father, we our beloved Nannie Bertha Stanback LeGrand's mission was fulfilled on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at the age of 89.   She was born to the late Harry and Elmira Legrande Stanback, on Wednesday, October 7, 1931, in Richmond County, North Carolina.

Ms. Nannie, as she was fondly called by family and friends, attended the public schools of Richmond County and in 1950, she graduated from Dudley High School in Greensboro, NC..

At an early age, she joined Mt. Airy AME Zion Church where she served on many boards and clubs; President of the Senior Choir, Church Clerk, Sunday School Superintendent, Missionary Life member and Lay Council member.  She was a faithful member over 70 years,.

Ms. Nannie worked in Greenville, NC for many years with the Wallace Chandler Family.  She also worked at Mt. Gilead Finishing, McRae Shoe Factory, Mt. Gilead, NC and Dawson Consumer Products of Albemarle, NC.

In 1968, she married Nathan LeGrand, Jr.(Big Shot), who preceded her in death  and also four brothers and 5 sisters.

She leaves to cherish loving memories to one daughter, Lynnette Stanback of Albemarle, NC, tow sons, Michael Stanback (Nora McGuine) of Biscoe, NC and Christopher LeGrand (LaTonja) of Charotte, NC; 9 grandchildren, Cedric, Dakota, Tee, Chris, Terrance, Deon, Caleb, DaQuan and Diamonta; 15 great-grandchildren.  three sisters,, Ann Patterson and Polly Steele (Henry) all of Mt. Gilead NC and Sue McLeod of Greensboro, NC; sisters-in-law, Dorsena  Stanback of Rockingham, NC, Betty LeGrand of Fayettevllle, NC and Annette Stanback of Charlotte, NC; one brother-in-law, John Taylor of Greensboro, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
