Norris Edward Polk

MR. NORRIS EDWARD POLK, 71 of MONROE, NC , passed away Monday, March 14, 2016 at Pruitt Health at Union Point in Monroe, NC.

Funeral Services will be held 1:00pm Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Mount Calvary AME Zion Church, 800 La Salle St., Monroe, NC.  Interment will follow in the Clarksville AME Zion Church Cemetery in Monroe, NC.

A public viewing will be held 1:00pm to 7:00pm Friday, March 18, 2016 , at Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Monroe.

Born on Friday, March 24, 1944, in Marshville, NC, he was a son of the late Edward and Mable Rorie Polk. He was a 1963 graduate of East Union High School in Marshville, NC,  and retired from the North Carolina Department of Corrections in 2006.

Norris was preceded in death by two sisters; Bertha Polk Kilgo, and Druscilla Polk McGill and one brother; Sgt. Michael Polk.

He leaves behind his wife Diana, whom he met in 1962 at East Union High School.  They were united in marriage for 50 joyous years and he loved Diana dearly and wasn't hesitant to make it known. Also left to mourn his loss are four children Mrs. Lititia McKesson (Marvin) of Greenville, NC, Miss Edwina Polkof Charlotte, NC, Roderick N. Polk of Round Hill, VA and Nicholas J. Polk (Cheyl) of Spring, TX;  the loves of his life, his five grandchildren,   Alicia "Punkin Head", Bianca "B", Akia "Kia", Joya "Joy" and Nicholas II "Nick"; a special nephew,  Greg Crowder, who was his right hand, a great nephew and great niece, Emanual "Little Man" and Azaniah "Little Girl";  three sisters,  Carolyn Moore of Marshville, NC,  Mary Frances Crowder of Monroe, NC  and Sarah Polk of Camden, SC; four brothers,  Curtis L. Polk of Indian Trail, NC, James C. Polk of Durham, NC, Billy Don Polk of Marshville, NC,  and Thomas E. Polk of Wingate, NC;   and a host of nieces and nephews.  Norris enjoyed and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, because of his experience with the Department of Corrections, he appointed himself the "Neighborhood  Watch Commander".
