MISS PAULINE JOY McDONALD, 62 of MT. GILEAD, NC passed away Sunday, May 9, 2021.  Graveside Services will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, May 15, 2021 at the Mount Airy AME Zion Church Cemetery, 322 Rosenwald School Rd., MT.Gilead, NC.

(Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic everyone attending the Service and Public Viewing are required to wear a mask or facial covering.  Also please use the Hand Sanitizing Station when entering and exiting the Funeral Home.)

A public viewing will be held 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Friday, May 14, 2021 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremations of MT. Gilead, NC which is serving the McDonald, LeGrande and extended families.

A Time To Be Born: On March 3, 1959, Pauline "Joy" McDonald opened her eyes to the world in Troy, NC, to the late Walter Sr., and Fannie LeGrand McDonald.

A Time For Training: Joy was raised in Mt. Gilead, NC, where she graduated from West Montgomery High School in the class of 1977.  After graduation, she attended the National Business College in Roanoke, VA.  After receiving her Associates Degree in Business in 1979, she furthered her education at Norfolk State University where she received her Bachelors of Arts in Sociology.

A Time to Practice Faith: Joy was first baptized into christian faith at Mt. Airy AME Zion Church.  She sang on the Mt. Airy Junior Choir and represented Mt. Airy at the Sunday School Convention for several years.  While living in Virginia, Joy joined Gethsemane Community Fellowship Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Kirk T. Houston, Sr.

A Time for Service: Joy worked for the Norfolk Sheriff's Office Programs Unit and retired after more than 30 years of service.  She taught GED to inmates and also worked in the Chaplain's Department.  Joy pledged and was inducted into Portsmouth Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Inc.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Sr., and Fannie McDonald; one sister, Annie Virginia and a niece, Mia Ellerbe.

A Time to Remember: Joy leaves to cherish her memories to her sisters; Sally McDonald, Dorsey (Leon) Turner of Mt. Gilead, NC, Carrie McDonald, EverJean Ellerbe, Doretha McDonald, all of Brooklyn, NY; one brother, Walter "June" (Lilly) McDonald of High Point, NC; brother-in-law, Johnnie Morris; two sisters, Fay and Jennifer LeGrand; a very special friend, Robert Dawson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, especially her great-nieces and great-nephews, Maci, Kennedim Jordan and Kingston.
