Peggy Ruth Christian

MISS PEGGY RUTH CHRISTIAN, 83 of EAST ORANGE, NJ formerly of MT. Gilead, NC (Wadeville Community) passed away Saturday, June 6, 2020 at her home.

A Graveside Service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, June 20, 2020 at the Bruton Cemetery, 500 Bruton-Carpenter Rd., MT. Gilead, NC ( Wadeville Community).

(Due to the COVID 19 pandemic everyone attending the service are ask to wear a mask or facial covering also when entering the Chapel for the viewing and please use the Hand Sanitizing Station when entering and exiting the Chapel, Thank You.)

A Public viewing will be held 10:00 am to 1:30 pm  Saturday, June 20, 2020 at   Harris Funeral Home & Cremations of MT. Gilead, NC.

Peggy Ruth Christian was born on Thursday,  November 5, 1936, in Montgomery County, North Carolina.  She was the daughter of the late Henry Sr., and Viola Christian.

Peggy attended Peabody High School in Troy, North Carolina.  She moved to New Jersey in 1956 and later was employed at ARA Laundry Service and for East Orange, New Jersey Children's School Bus Service, where she diligently worked until she retired.  She purchased her home in 1975 and resided there until her death.

Ms. Peggy's favorite past time was raising her grandchildren and gardening.  She loved all kinds of flowers, even artificial ones.  She loved them so much that once we threw some of her flowers away and she yelled, " why would you throw away my flowers"?  You can bet that never happened again!  She loved her wigs and you couldn't catch her without one on.  She also loved clothes, and she would move them from the house tp the garage, from ther garage to the basement in hopes that someone would be able to use them one day.  They are still there!

Peggy Ruth Christian accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior on Friday, May 22, 2020.  She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Sarah Christian, Clarence Christian, Mathew Christian, Henry Christian, Jr.,(aka June) and Mack Christian.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories to two loving sons, Conroy Christian and Thomas Christian of East Orange, NY; two daughters, Christine Christian of Asheboro, NC and Ernestine Christian of Brooklyn, NY; three sisters, Hazel Deberry of Orange, NJ, Grace Robinson of Mt. Gilead, NC and Margaret Christian of Newark, NJ; two brothers, James Christian of Wadeville, NC and Alphonso Christian (Gloria) of Irvington, NJ; 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousmms and special friends.
