PHILLIP LEROY GOULD, 83 of MT. GILEAD, NC passed away Monday, April 5, 2021 at First Health / Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst, NC.

Graveside Services will be held 12:00 pm Sunday, April 11, 2021 at the  Mount  Airy AME Zion Church Cemetery, 322 Rosenwald School Rd., MT. Gilead, NC.

( Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic everyone attending the Service and Public Viewing are required to wear a mask or facial covering.  Also please use the Hand Sanitizing Station when entering and exiting the Funeral Home.)

A public viewing will be held 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremations of MT. Gilead, NC.

Born to the late Eli and Martha Livingston Gould , Phillip Leroy Gould began his earthly journey on Saturday, November 13, 1937 in Richmond County, North Carolina.

Phillip was educated in the Richmond County Public Schools.  He confessed  Christ at  an early age and was the oldest living male member of Mt. Airy A.M.E. Zion Church, Mt. Gilead., NC, where  he served,  volunteered and stood in the gap as Past Chairman  of the Trustee Board, Class Leader, Grave Sire Committee, and member of the Mt. Airy AME Zion Gospel Choir, as well as a singing bass with  various gospel group, the  Gospel Keys and The Golden Voices of Mt. Gilead.  He will be forever remembered as being the first member at Mt. Airy every sunday and his passion for tinkering and fixing any item that was broken.  He has served the Mt. Gilead Community in many ways by standing in the  gap to ensure that his friend's widws are taken care of following the death of their spouses.  He had continued the Missionary work that his beloved wife Rev, Marcella Gould began with ensuring the elderly ad people in need in the community received a blessing of a Breast Cancer Awareness Gift Bag at Christmas time.  On June 19, 1967, Phillip began a long rewarding career at Alcoa Aluminum Company of America, where he received recognition for 25 years of service as a steel worker in the pot room.  He retired after 30 years of service due to an on the job injury.

On June 17, 1961, Phillip was united in marriage to Rev. Marcella Rush, whom has preceded him in death.  To this union, God blessed them with three children, Phillip Jr.(Gladys Robinson) Mt. Gilead, NC, Barbara Gould, (Odenton, Maryland, and Lessie Jackson, Mt. Gilead, NC; three grandchildren, Emmanuel, Celeste and Charles; 4 great-grandchildren,  In addition to being survived by his brother, Rueben Gould (Martha Gould) Albany, NY, he leaves to cherish his loving and fond memories, to a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends,  Throughout his life, Phillip mentored many whom have come to recognize him as their Daddy.  In his heart, there have been many who have stepped up and fulfilled the gap in his life.  Anyone that know our Daddy knows that he knew had love, devotion and a caring spirit for others.

Phillip was preceded in death by his 8 brothers and sisters, including Ella Mae Williams (Carvester Walton), Johnsie Watkins (Leon Watkins), Annie Williams (Willie Clark), Arthur Gould (Hattie Rose Gould), William Gould (died early due to cardiac issues), Walter Gould (Viola Gould), Jeannie Mae Medley (Claude Medley), and Eli Gould (Catherine Mae Gould).
