Phillip Donald Sims

MR. PHILLIP DONALD SIMS, 78 of LOS ANGELES, CA formerly of Monroe, NC passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at his home.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, September 7, 2018 at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Monroe,NC

Harris Funeral Home & Cremations of Monroe, NC is in charge of arrangements.

Born Friday, May 17, 1940 in Monroe, NC, he was  a son of the late Thomas James Sims and Lula Barbour Sims.  He attended Black's Memorial Presbyterian Church in Monroe, NC and was a 1957 graduate of Winchester Avenue High School in Monroe, NC.   He also attended Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC.

Phillip had a great sense of humor, attracted lots of friends and was musically inclined.  He had a beautiful voice and played the piano and he also played in a local Band. He loved sports and was always ready to watch Basketball and Football on television. Phillip resided in California for over forty years and worked in the office for Watts Mfg Company and also worked as a Security Guard for various companies.

Phillip was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Connie Sims Jordan and Donna Sims; one grandson, Cory Stamps; one brother, James Sims; two sisters,  Virginia Sims and Jean Sims.

He leaves to cherish fond and loving memories to his daughters, Robin Sims, Pamela Sims Stamps and Verna Sims; two sisters, Sally Sims Murrell of Columbia, MD and Lucy Sims of Corona, CA;16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Clint Stamps of Los Angeles, CA and one brother-in-law,  Allan Murrell of Columbia, MD, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
