MR. RAYMOND STATON, 81 of CHARLOTTE, NC formerly of MARSHVILLE, NC passed away Monday, August 24, 2015 at Carolinas Medical Center-Main in Charlotte, NC. Funeral Services will be held 2pm Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Piney Grove East Missionary Baptist Church, 1708 Ansonville Rd., Marshville, NC 28103, Reverend James Shine, Eulogist. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. A public viewing will be held 12 noon to 7pm Friday, August 28, 2015 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Monroe, NC.
Raymond was born Saturday, December 2, 1933 in Marshville, NC a son of the late David Cicero Staton and Rachel Geneva Rorie Staton. He was a member of Piney Grove East Missionary Baptist and served faithfully on the Usher Board, also attended East Union School in Marshville, NC. Raymond was employed with Teledyne Allvac for over 20 years and Edwards Wood Products for a number of years until his declining health. He was preceded in death by his sister Flossie Lee Bivens and two brothers; Leroy Staton and James Thomas Staton.
Raymond was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. He was united in matrimony to the late Berneice Covington Staton and to their union two daughters were born Patricia Buchanon (Dale) of Lancaster, SC and Priscilla Howard (Benny) of Monroe, NC. Following Berneice's death Raymond united in holy matrimony to the late Mary Frances Gillespie and to their union raised six daughters; Teresa Ann Staton (deceased) Ernestine Staton of Marshville, NC, Cynthia Delores Staton, Anita Staton and Ramona Francena Staton all of Charlotte, NC and Darlene Staton of Delray Beach, FL.
Raymond also leaves to cherish fond and loving memories to step son Barry Covington (Peggy) of Wingate, NC one sister; Ada Mae Clark of Wingate, NC and one brother; Harvey Lee Staton (Irene) of Monroe, NC; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law; Rommie Gillespie and Archer Gillespie (Carolyn), six sisters-in-law Sadie Howard Staton, Queen G. Sturdivant, Rosie G. Thomas, Sarah Gillespie, Sadie Hamlor and Callon Washington Gillespie and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
