MRS. REBECCA STANBACK, 79 of BROOKLYN, NY. passed away Friday, February 15, 2019 at her home in Brooklyn, NY. Mrs. Stanback is the wife of Mr. Bobby Stanback of Brooklyn, NY formerly of the (Wadeville Community) of MT.Gilead, NC.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, March 2, 2019, at the Clark's Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 594 NC Highway 109 S., MT. Gilead, NC 27306. Visitation will be held 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm prior to the service at the Church.
Interment will follow in the Bruton Cemetery, Bruton Cemetery Rd., (Wadeville Community) MT. Gilead, NC.
A public viewing will be held 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm Friday,March 1, 2019 at Harris Funeral Home and Cremations of MT. Gilead NC whom is serving the Stanback, Horne and extended families .
Rebecca Rosetta Saunders Stanback, was born to the late Abraham Saunders, and Ernestine Flemings Saunders on March 15, 1939, at Harlem Hospital in Manhattan, NY. Rebecca was educated in the New York City public school system, where she attended P.S. 75 and J.H.S. 60 in the Bronx, where she lived out her childhood. She then attended Fashion High School and completed her high school education earning a diploma from Erasamus Hall in Brooklyn after moving to Park Slope with her family in the late 1950's.
Rebecca married the love of her life, Bobby Mac Stanback on february 27, 1960, and he made sure nothing was to good for his Coo-bee, and made sure she had the best of everything. She was an exceptional seamtress, loved the theater, reading novels, classsical music, fine arts, museums, and the opera. She was employed after 30 years as a government employee with the Social Security Administration. She was the first one in the Saunders family to earn a college degree from NYC Community College by attending night school after a long days work at the Social Security.
On Friday, February 15, 2019, she quietly slipped away with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Edward (Sonny), sisters, Bernice and Joan; nieces, Veronica and Ellie and nephew, Edward; brother-in-law, Louis Esposito, Donald Ray Phifer and sister-in-law, Rebecca Robinson.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved husband, Bobby M. Stanback; two daughters, Sabrina Kim Stanback-Weeks and Gail Arniece Stanback Parker; two sons-in-law, Sheldon and Carl; six grandchildren, Bernard Sheldon, Carl, Nyemah, Christian, Yasmiene; two sisters, Lois Esposito and Ada Shanks; one brother-in-law, Latimore; two nephews, Langston and David and niece, Denise; three great-nieces, Nyesha. Karonand Klarke, Frank, William, Felecia and Ernestine. Her in-laws, Ronald Lynn Phifer and wife Diane; Latrell Phifer and Peggy-Joyce Phifer; aunt, Judy Bennett and Margaret, Tobias Horne, Teresa Horne and Clara Armstrong(Gary) and Katie Horne; Winifred, Tiffany, Siobhan, Emmanuel, just to name a few and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Rebecca will always be remembered as a selfless wife and mother, who always had a smile and a kind word, even when times were tough. She ha a quiet strength; she never complained and always looked to a better tomorrow.
