Rev. Esther Mae (Ellerbe) Nixon

August 22, 1922 — December 21, 2012

Reverend Esther Mae Ellerbe Nixon, 90 of Waxhaw, NC died Friday, December 21, 2012 at Hospice of Union County in Monroe, NC .  Funeral Services will be held 1pm Thursday, December 27, 2012, at Marvin AME Zion Church, 1525 Crane Rd., Waxhaw, NC 28173,  with the  Reverend Cecil Alsobrooks, Eulogist and  Pastor of Ebenezer A.M.E. Zion Church.  Interment will follow in the Ebenezer AME Zion Church Cemetery in Waxhaw, NC.

Born in Anson County, NC a daughter of the late Raymond, Sr. and Kessie Haywood Ellerbe.  She was the wife of the late Reverend John J. Nixon, Sr. and to this Union 11 children were born, two sons died at birth, and daughter, Reverend Cassie Nixon Morrison preceded her in death along with brothers and sisters.  She was a member of Ebenezer AME Zion Church of Waxhaw, NC where she served as Associate Minister, Trustee, Class Leader and several other ministries at the Church.

She leaves to cherish fond and loving memories; Two  sons; James T. (Bonita) Nixon of Lake Wylie, SC, John J. Nixon, Jr. of Monroe, NC; six daughters; Reverend Dorothy (Arthur, Sr.) Wallace, Margie (Marion) Sutton and Mary Massey all of  Waxhaw, NC, Gertrude Alsobrooks of Monroe, NC, Clara Nixon of Wadesboro,NC and Laverne Nixon of Marshville, NC; 34 Grandchildren and over 25 Great-grandchildren, two brothers;  Sherman (Doris) Ellerbe of Fuquay Varina, NC and Luke Ellerbe of Texas; Three Sisters; Isabelle Medley of Brooklyn, NY, Florence (James R.) Cagle of Biscoe, NC, Shelly (Freddie) James of Raleigh, NC.

Public viewing will be held 11am to 7pm Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Monroe, NC.
