Richard Harris

April 16, 1920 — March 16, 2013

Mr. Richard Harris, 92,  of Mount Gilead, NC (Wadeville Community) died Saturday, March 16, 2013 at his home.  Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Clark's Grove Baptist Church, with the Reverend John McQueen, eulogist.  Burial will be in the Bruton Cemetery, Wadeville.

Mr. Harris was a Davidson County, Lexington, NC native.  He was a WWII veteran of the US Army, retired from the Montgomery Public School, and formerly employed with Jordan Lumber Company, Mt. Gilead and Springs Mills, Biscoe.  While in the service, Richard received citations for the following, WWII Victory Medal, two Bronze Service Medals, American Theater Campaign Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

He was born April 16, 1920 to the late Warner Harris and Annie B. Baldwin.  He was the eldest of 11 children and nine preceded him in death.  He was educated in the Montgomery County Public Schools

He was married to the former Mae Frances Watkins and  to this union six children were born.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mrs. Mae Frances Harris, of the home; sons; Barry Harris and Royce Harris (Donna), all of Mt. Gilead, NC and Gregory Harris (Susan) of Hinesville, GA; daughters; Carol Pemberton and Rhonda Adjip, both of Mt. Gilead, NC and Deborah Harris of Charlotte, NC;  one brother, Amos Harris (Joanne) of Mt. Gilead, NC; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Public viewing will be from 11:00 am until 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Harris Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead and one hour prior to the funeral.
