Our beloved family matriarch, Ruby Mae Kingwood Chambers, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, February 1, 2020.

Ruby was born in Mayesville, South Carolina on August 25, 1934, to the late Lee and Lilly Bell Green Kingwood.  She was a strong believer and accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age.  She served faithfully at Goodwill Presbyterian Church (Mayesville, SC), Church of God (Brooklyn NY), Victory Church (Sumter, SC) and her beloved, First Congregational United Church of Christ(Concord).

Ruby was married to Carnell Chambers and reared six children in Brooklyn, NY.  Ruby had a genuine love of service to others which she instilled in her children and grandchildren.  She enjoyed researching natural healing remedies and sharing them with family and friends.  She was also a talented seamstress.  She enjoyed sewing hats and scarves to ensure her grandchildren were warm for the winter.  Nothing brought Ruby's family and friends together better than the smell of her famous hot yeast rolls and sweet pastried baking in her oven.

Ruby received her formal education in Mayesville, SC. Her lifelong love of learning led her to the New York Fashion Institute where she receoved formal training in the arts of sewing and pattern making.  Ruby's committment to serving others and quest for knowledge transends her generation, inspiring her children and grandchildren.  For example, her eldest daughter, Lorna, served as a Social Services Supervisor, ensuring the protection and well being of children in New York, and her youngest daughter serves a nurse, caring for others as she cared for her mother.  Both Ruby's sons, Kenneth and Etroy, serve as Deacons in their respective churches.  Ruby's life of service, unwavering faith, and love of God is evident in the lives of everyone she encountered and will live on for years to come.

Ruby was preced in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Stevie and Darnell Chambers; one sister, Vickie Dawn(Joseph); four brothers, William, "Bubba", Edward "Shot aunts, Mary" (Essie), Clyde "CJ" and Willie (Rosa); two special aunts, Mary D. Butler, (affectionately) known as Aunt "D", who was like a mother to Ruby and Molina Myers who was like a sister.

Ruby leaves to cherish her memory four children, Lorna Moore (Tony) and Kenneth Chambers, all of Brooklyn, NY, Vanessa Smalls of Concord, NC and Etroy Green of Effingham, SC; daughter-in-law, Rachel Chambers; one sister, Christine Frierson (Roy) of Baltimore, MD, 13 grandchildren, Stevie (Zahire), Lamar, Michaud, Chakiff, Emani, Kendra, Stone, Tayshome', Etroy, Jaylin, Ethan, Arlia, Jonathan and Kennedy; one great-granddaughter, Summer and a host of nieces, nephews, family members, church members and friends.
