Selma Cox

MISS SELMA COX, 86 of WINGATE, NC died Friday, April 29, 2016 at CHS Hospice of Union County in Monroe, NC.  Funeral Services will be held 1:00pm Thursday, May 5, 2016, at the Piney Grove East Missionary Baptist Church, 1708 Ansonville Rd., Marshville, NC 28103. Reverend Dr. Matthew Rouse, III, Pastor, will be the Eulogist.  Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

A public viewing will be held 1:00pm to 7:00pm Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Monroe, NC.

Born in Union County, NC, Saturday, May 25, 1929, one out of fourteen children, she was a daughter of the late James Sylvester and Jessie Parker Cox.  In the early years of her life, Selma moved to New York where she worked as a CNA at South Shore Health Care for nineteen years and a Dietician for seven years until she retired and moved back to Wingate, NC, her birthplace.

She leaves to cherish fond and loving memories to her two children; daughter, Carrol Cox Simmons (Cannon, Jr., deceased) of Roosevelt, NY, and son, Jackie Cox of the home;  one sister, Jessie Mae Hough of Wingate, NC; one brother, Newel Cox (Virginia) of Freeport, NY; six grandchildren, Cannon Simmons, III, Quontinette Simmons, Roberta Murphy (Jawan) and Antwinette Simmons, all of Long Island, NY, Claudette Simmons of Charlotte, NC and Preist Cox of Texas, thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, one sister -in-law, Margorie Cox of Monroe, NC,  and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and dear friends.
