Sfc Charles Walter Turner, Us Army (Ret.)

March 22, 1953 — February 17, 2013

SFC Charles Walter Turner, 59, US Army (Ret.) of Chester, VA formerly of Mount Gilead, NC died Sunday, February 17, 2013 at his home in Chester, VA.  Funeral Services will be held 1pm Saturday, February 23, 2013, at Leah R. Levin Memorial Auditorium, 102 S. School St., Mount Gilead, NC 27306, with the Reverend David M. Wooley,  pastor of McAuley Memorial AME Zion Church, Mt. Gilead, NC,  Eulogist.  Interment with Full Military Honors will follow in the Parson Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, 561 Teddar Rd., Mount Gilead, NC. Public viewing will be held 12 noon to 7pm Friday, February 22, 2013  at  Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Mount Gilead, NC.

Charles was born  March 22, 1953, in Richmond County, NC, to the late Walter Odell and Elizabeth Robinson Turner.  He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Chestnut AME Zion Church, Mt. Gilead, NC.  He was a 1971 graduate of West Montgomery High School, 1995 graduate of Central Texas College, and a 1998 graduate of Virginia State University.  He was a retired educator of the Charles City County VA School System,  from 1995 until retiring in 2010. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1976 and retired in 1995 with the rank of Sergeant First Class.

He leaves  to cherish loving and fond memories to his loving and devoted wife of 31 years, Deborah Little Turner of the home; two daughters; Keon Charisse Turner of Colonial Heights, VA and Andrea LeShay Ingram of Raleigh, NC; four granddaughters; Tian Johnson of Colonial Heights, VA, Amber, Jayda and Bailey Ingram, all of Raleigh, NC; one great-grandson, Jayce; two brothers; Rev. Roger Turner (JoAnne) and Leon Turner, Sr., (Dorsey), all of Mt. Gilead, NC; one aunt, Mary Tyson, of Trenton, NJ; mother-in-law, Ruby Little, of Mt. Gilead, NC; special nephew, Vincent Horne (Roxanne) of Maryville, TN; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law,  and other relatives and dear friends.
