MR. SIRLESTER "Sam" IVEY, 78 of MONROE, NC, passed away Friday, November 11, 2016 at his home.
Funeral Service will be held 1:00pm Friday, November 18, 2016 at Central United Methodist Church, 801 S. Hayne St., Monroe, NC.
Interment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park, Monroe, NC. A public viewing will be Thursday, November 17, 2016 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Monroe, NC.
Born Friday, June 17, 1938 in Union County, NC, he was a son of the late Chester Ivey and Mrs. Marie Gladden Ivey and was eighth of ten siblings. He attended Red Level School in Union County, NC, he was also a member of Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church in Monroe, NC where he attended faithfully until his health began to fail him and he loved to listen to Mahailia Jackson.
"Sam" was married to Rose Lee Holmes Ivey, who preceded him in death. He retired from Griffin Implement and Milling as a tractor mechanic. After retiring, he started working for BB&T. His landscaping ability could be Identified throughout the community in which he lived. It was no problem making sure the yards near him were kept emaculate.
"Sam" was also preceded in death by one daughter, Paulette Bolden Ivey; four brothers, Franklin Ivey, David Ivey, Smith Ivey (Maggie) and Joe Alsbrooks and one sister, Minnie Lee Durins (Curl).
He is survived by thirteen children, three daughters; Sharon Gaspar (Joel), Kathy Ivey Caldwell, Kim Ivey Grady (Kenneth), ten sons; Dale Butler (Amy), Richard Ivey (Dwan), Rodney Ivey (Falin), Ricky Ivey (Machelle), Randy Ivey (Dorothy), Sirlester Ivey, Jr. (Shantelle), Reginald Eugene Ivey (Marie), James Hughes (Helen), Paul S. Redfern and Danny Redfern; two sisters, Ruth Irving and Janie M. Lockhart and one brother; Ezzell Ivey of Monroe, NC; two sisters-in-laws, Betty Lois and Priscilla Ivey. He also leaves behind a host of grandchildren,great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles and several nieces and nephews.
