Sylvester (Vest) Horne

Mr. Sylvester " Vest"  Horne, 87 of High Point, NC formerly of Mount Gilead, NC died Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Piedmont Hospice Home in High Point, NC.  Funeral Services will be held 2pm Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Snow Hill AME Zion Church, 204 Snow Hill Ch. Rd., Mount Gilead, NC 27306. Reverend Freddie Smith, Pastor, Officiating, and  Reverend David M. Wooley, Eulogist.  Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.  Public viewing will be held  1pm to 7pm Friday, August 2, 2013 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Mount Gilead, NC.

He  was a  faithful member of Snow Hill AME Zion Church, where he was a Sunday School Superintendent and a Trustee.  " Vest" enjoyed reading his bible and cultivating his vegetable garden.  He was employed and retired from Snow Lumber Company in High Point and received his formal education from the Richmond County School System.  He was precded in death by his wife, Delanda, a daughter, Beverly, two sisters Dora Mae and Rosa Lee, two nephews, Joseph and Randy and niece, Jennie Lee.

Survivors include his children; Nathaniel (Linda), Stella, Patricia, Emma(Tony), Mike, Deborah Jean( Michael) and Wendy; 13 Grandchildren, Several Great-grandchildren; Step-son, Scott Hooper, (Misty) and four step-grandchildren, Alexis Nicole, Jordan and Jaxson Hooper and Faith Payne; a nephew, William (Andrea), a niece, Yvonne(Robert) and special longtime friend, Rev. Dewey Rudisell;  several great-grandchildren,  sisters-in-law,  and a host of loving cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
