MRS. VENDELLA MCDONALD YOUNG, 62 of MT. GILEAD, NC, passed away, Thursday, March 17, 2022, in the UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill, NC.
Graveside Service will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2022, at Mt. Airy A.M.E. Zion Church Cemetery, 322 Rosenwald School Road, Mt. Gilead, NC.
Public viewing will be held Thursday, March 24, 2022 at the Harris Funeral Home and Cremations of Mt. Gilead, NC from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m..

Mrs. Vendella Mcdonald Young, was born to J.C. and Katie McDonald Young on Fridsy, November 6, 1959 in Montgomery County, NC.
She attended the public schools of both Richmond and Montgomery Counties and graduated from West Montgomery High School, Class of 1979.
Vendella was a faithful and dedicated member of Mt. Airy A.M.E. Zion Church in Mt. Gilead, NC. There she served in the following auxiliaries; Church Treasurer, Class Leader, Pastor's Aide Committee, Life Missionary Member, Lay Council, Senior Usher Board, Senior Choir and Christian Education Department.
Vendella was employed by Mohawk Industries in Mt. Gilead, NC, for many years until her retirement in 2020. She later went to work for Troy Flower and Gift Shop in Troy, NC.
She met Mr. Bobby Young in 1983 and they were married in August 23, 1997.
"Booga" as she was fondly called by family and friends, was preceded in death by her parents; her aunt who helped raise her, Carrie Mae McRae; one sister-in-law, Emma Drake; and two- brothers-in-law, Ray Charles and Roy Young.
Her legacy will remain in the hearts of her loving husband, Bobby Young of the home; her children; Anthony McDonald (Tietia) of Fort Lee, VA, LaKitia Mcllwan (Fredrich) of Rock Hill, SC and Navia McDonald of the home; three grandchildren, Derias, Devon and Malique; two brothers, Larry McDonald of the home and Kenny McDonald (Marnita) of Mt. Gilead, NC; one sister,, Sally Young of Asheboro, NC; two cousins, raised as aunts, Jacqueline Autry and Rebecca Lilly (Dorseph) both of Mount Gilead, NC, NC; two sisters-in-law, Anita Barrett of Troy, NC and Cynthia Terry of Ellerbe, NC; two brothers-in-law, J.M. Young (Clarissa) of Albemarle, NC and Ricky Young (Loretta) of Biscoe, NC; special lifelong friends and cousins, Sharrion Collins, Faye Simon, Annie Christian and Lessie Gould-Jackson, all of Mt. Gilead, NC and Barbara Gould of Odenton, MD, and a host of other cousins, relatives and friends.
