Vernia Lee Sowell

​MISS VERNIA LEE SOWELL, 72 of WASHINGTON, DC formerly of Union County, NC, ​passed away Monday, February 12, 2018 at Carolinas HealthCareSystem / Hospice of Union County in Monroe, NC.

Funeral Services will be held 1:00 pm Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 501 P.E. Bazemore Dr., Monroe, NC., with the Reverend Larry W. Leake, Pastor, Eulogist.  Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Monroe, NC.

A public viewing will be held 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday, February 19, 2018 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremations of Monroe, NC.

Vernia Lee was born on Tuesday, October 9, 1945, in Chesterfield, County, SC, to the late William Lewis Sowell and Annie Lee Miller Sowell.

Vernia Lee graduated from McKinley High School in Washington, DC and worked for the United States Postal Service, where she retired after 30 years of service.  She was predeceased by her parents, and a brother, Charles Lenzy Miller, Sr.

She leaves cherished memories to three sisters, Melinda Winchester (Henry Sr.) and Brenda Caldwell, all of Monroe, NC and Beverlyn Diane Clyburn (Donnie) of Wingate, NC, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other friends, with special friend, Penny Frye Campbell.
