Viola (Crowder) Hammonds

MRS. VIOLA CROWDER HAMMONDS, 95 of MONROE, NC passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at her home.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am Friday, July 23, 2021 at the Nicey Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 318 N. Camden Rd., Marshville, NC.  Mrs. Hammonds remains will lie in repose 10:00 to 11:00 am at the church prior to the service.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

(Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic everyone attending the Service and Public Viewing are equired to wear a face mask or facial covering.  Also please use the Hand Sanitizing Station when entering and exiting the Funeral Home.)

A public viewing will be held 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Thursday, July 22, 2021 at Harris Funeral Home & Cremations of Monroe, NC, which is serving the Hammonds, Crowder and etended families.

Mrs. Viola Crowder Hammonds , 95 of Momroe, NC was the daughter of the late Lee Crowder and Arey Sassafrass Crowder.  She was born on Monday, February 1, 1926 in Union County, North Carolina.  She departed this life on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at her home.

Viola was the Matriarch of her six  generation family and they all called her "Mama."  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and sister.  She loved fishing, gardening, and taking care of her flower beds.  She was married to the late Emmanuel "Bub" Hammonds and they were together for over 50 years until his transition from this earthly home.  Viola was a faithful member of Nicey Grove Missionary Baptist Church until her health began to decline.

Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Emanual "Bub" Hammonds; five daughters, Willie Faye Deese, Betty Gene Garmon, Bertha Alsobrooks, Sarah Meadows, Debra Hammonds and one son, Danny Hammonds.

Viola leaves to cherish her loving and memories to six sons, Albert Hammonds (Jearline), Cletise Hammonds, Felix "Phillip" Hammonds, Tony Hammonds, Dennis "Peanut" Hannonds and Lendy "Mickey" Hammonds (Regina); two daughters, Frances Barrino and Christine Thompson (David); two sisters, Ossie Perry and Eula Covington Covington (Barry); 50 grandchildren, 103 great-grandchildren,  46 great-great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
