MS. WILLIE MAE "Marie" HOPKINS, 74 of WASHINGTON, DC, formerly of Monroe, NC; passed away Friday, October 28, 2016, at the United Medical Center in Washington, DC. A memorial service in her honor will be held 11:00 am Saturday, November 19, 2016 at the Freeman Funeral Service, P.A., 7201 Old Alexandria Ferry Rd., Suite 4C, Clinton, MD 20735. A Private Interment will be held in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Monroe, NC. Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Monroe in charge.
Born Monday, October 19, 1942 in Union County, NC, she was the third of eight siblings to the late Willie and Marion Lomax Hopkins. "Marie" will be remembered as an intellegent well rounded individual who lived her life to the fullest. At an early age, she gave her life to Jesus and was baptized at the Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church, Monroe, NC, under the leadership of the Reverend C.C. Johnson. After graduating from Winchester High School as valedictorian and receiving a basketball scholarship, she attended Johnson C. Smith University and Howard University where she received her degrees in English and Philosophy and became a member of Alpha Kappa Sorority.
She was employed as an administrative assistant to the President at Gallaudet College, Washington, DC. After many years of service there, she worked as a real estate agent, buying and selling homes in the DC area. Later in her life, she became CEO of her own company, WH Financial Services, as a Financial consultant to major businesses for over 30 years.
She will also be remember as a sister with a golden heart and life donor. "Marie" would give you her last dime. She loved beautiful, expensive things, suedes, leathers, pearls and diamonds. Born with an expensive taste for the best life had to offer. She loved city life in DC and after retirement, enjoyed sports, reading, traveling, socializing with family and friends.
Farewell Willie "Marie"! We thank God for your life on earth...We know you will enjoy heaven because the gates are made of pearls and the streets are paved with gold. All your needs will be met, and there will be no more sorrow, no more needs or wants unmet. Just think, "All of your needs will be met because you will have your own mansion" in heaven.
All of those we love, we will see again including Jesus, Pauletta Juan, Mother, The Holy Spirit, Father, your sisters and brothers who have passed on before you and God Almighty himself.
Willie "Marie" leaves to cherish her memories as she is survived by her brothers and sisters, Otis Hopkins, Reverend Dr. Marian Hopkins Tucker, Jacob Roland Hopkins and Reverend Dr. Brenda Hopkins. Ernest Lomax Hopkins & John Edward Hopkins preceded her in death; aunt and uncle Rayford & Cornelia Cato; one brother-in-law, Bishop Morris Tucker. Three sisters-in-law: Mary Ann Anderson, Lomax; Gwen Alexander-Hopkins; Jean Harrison-Hopkins, one great brother and sister-in-law, Ricky Coleman-(Katryn Coleman). Eight neices, seven nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. Rest in peace and may God continue to be with you!
