MR. WILLIE CLARENCE PANKEY, 72 of ALBEMARLE, NC , passed away Friday, January 8, 2016, at CMC-Northeast Medical Center, Concord, NC. Funeral Services will be held 2pm Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Saints Delight Church, 510 Wall St., Albemarle, NC, Bishop James Richardson, Pastor, Officiating and Elder Evelyn Scott, Eulogist. Visitation will be held 1:30pm to 2:00pm prior to the service at the chruch. Interment will follow in the Thomasville Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Mount Gilead, NC. Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Mount Gilead, NC is in charge.
Willie was born in Montgomery County, NC, Wednesday, April 28, 1943 a son of the late Beatrice French, Buddy Jake and Lemon Legrand Pankey. He recieved his education in the Public Schools of Montgomery County graduating from Peabody High School in Troy, NC. He later relocated to Dayton, OH, where he worked as a diesel mechanic and eventually retiring from Rumpke Recycling Center. Upon retirement, he returned to North Carolina and settled in Albemarle.
Wille enjoyed cooking, studying the history of various subjects and participating in community events, including the Annual Amhurst Resident Appreciation and the Best of Badin Festival. But his favorite pastime was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grands. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sons, Ronnie Williams and twins Marcus and Christopher Pankey and one daughter Lemon B.L. Pankey.
Left to cherish his legacey and memories are his best friend, Helen Marguerite of Badin, NC and Alice Lee of Troy, NC; Seven daughters; Vertina Meshell Pankey of Mount Gilead, NC, Lemon Pankey of Albemarle, NC, Brenda McLeod and Beulah Williams of Brooklyn, NY, Elder Evelyn Scott of Badin, NC, Margie Dancy (Joe) of Dayton, OH and Helen Nelson of Atlanta, GA, one son; Pastor Roger Williams (Deitra) of Albemarle, NC, two daughters-in-law; Karen Williams of El Paso, TX and Demetria Pankey of Albemarle, NC, five sisters; Lizzie Lee Smith, Nellie Steele, Mary French, Judy Hood and Georgia Burns, three brothers; James Lindsey, Bobby Lindsey and Larry Burns, grandchildren, great-grandchildren; special friends; Robert Cochran, Sundance Lackey, William Priebe and Shumate, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and dear friends.
