MR. WILLIE JAMES SMITH, 61 of MT. GILEAD, NC, passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, at Atrium Health / Stanly in Albemarle, NC.
Private Graveside Services will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 21, 2020 at the Thomasville Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, 233 Thomasville Church Road, MT. Gilead, North Carolina.
(Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic those attending the Service must wear a mask or facial covering and at the Funeral Home for the Public Viewing and use the H and Sanitizing Station when entering and exiting the Building.)
Mr. Willie James Smith, a son of the late James Waylon Smith and Vaggaree "Sue" Thomas Smith, was born on Thursday, September 14, 1959, in Montgomery County, NC. He transitioned from this life on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, in the Atrium Health/Stanly in Albmarle, NC.
"Plug" , as he was fondly called by everyone, attended the public schools of Montgomery County. He was formerly employed with Jordan Lumber, Alandale Finishing Plant, Russell Harvell and Lee Johnson's Sock Mill as a Dyer.
"Plug" was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sandra Kay Smith. He will bbe sorely missed.
He leaves to cherish loving memories to his soulmate and partner, Lenora Steele of the home; five sisters, Carolyn Christian (Rev. Louis) of Mt. Gilead, NC, Janice Smith of Asheboro, NC, Ernestine Robinson (Herbert) of Mt. Gilead, NC, Geraldine Collins (James) and Brenda Smith, all of Asheboro, NC; two brothers, Whalen Edward Smith and Bruce Smith, both of Mt. Gilead, NC; two aunts, Mattie Thomas of Mt. Gilead, NC and Eva Thomas of Troy, NC; three uncles, Jim Thomas (Pearline) of New Haven, CT, Augusta Thomas of Mt. Gilead, NC and James Thomas (Geneva) of West Haven, CT; 22 nieces and nephews including four special nephews; Gerrick Thomas of High Point, NC, Emmanuel Christian, Roger Smith and Brandon Smith; three special nieces; Chenell Smith Collins of Asheboro, NC, Monita Smith and Cheryl Smith of Mt. Gilead, NC; special friends, Andre Powell, and Jermaine Stanback; special house buddy, Master Amir Wilson, and a host of great nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
A public viewing will be held 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Friday, November 20, 2020 at Harris Funeral Home and Cremations of MT. Gilead, NC, which is serving the Smith and extended families.
